1.       Consider Your Cargo. Before you go shopping for an enclosed cargo trailer you want to think about all of the items you want to haul. If you are going to be hauling a car or truck, you will need a lot more capacity than if you simply wish to haul your motorcycle. If you think you may have the need to haul heavier items in the future, it is best to get a cargo trailer with a larger capacity than what you currently need.

2.       Ramp Options. Enclosed utility trailers have 2 different types of ramps – self contained or detachable. Whenever possible it is best to opt for a self contained ramp that simply folds down or slides out. Detached ramps must be manually put into position and are stored inside the trailer along with your cargo.

3.       Optimal Tie-Downs. The more tie downs a utility trailer has, the better. This will enable you to better secure whatever you are hauling, maximizing safety.

4.       Braking System. Ensure you new enclosed cargo trailer has a braking system that can be integrated electronically with the brake controls in your truck. This will reduce the strain placed on your truck and ensure safety.

Insuring Your Toy Hauler

Having a toy hauler allows you to travel with your family and enjoy the great outdoors while taking the comforts of home with you.  No matter where you plan to travel, even the best thought out travel plans can sometimes go astray. When they do you will be glad that you thought ahead and got a well rounded RV insurance policy for your toy hauler camper.

Here are some of the things you should consider when deciding upon your toy hauler RV insurance:

  • Don’t assume the contents of your toy hauler or bike RV are covered just because you have an RV insurance policy. Most policy’s limit what they will cover inside your toy hauler.
  • If you are carrying expensive toys inside your toy hauler, make sure your policy includes theft coverage. Many toys are highly sought after by thieves.
  • Standard insurance policies often offer a limited amount of coverage for roadside assistance and towing and the cost of towing an RV may be as much as 3 times the cost of towing a car.
  • You can get RV insurance under a standard auto policy or get specialty RV insurance. Specialty RV insurance is more likely to take into account some of the aforementioned items. In the case that something happens you will be more likely to get a claims adjuster who focuses solely on RV insurance cases.
  • Specialty RV insurance policies often offer coverage for Vacation Liability which pays up to the limit of liability for injuries the RV owner is legally responsible as a result of an accident occurring during the time an RV is used as a temporary vacation residence.

Horse Head Safety

At Phoenix Coach Works, we put a lot of thought into creating the perfect trailer for your every need. After 25 years in the business, we have seen it all, and know the safety features you want and need to make your life easier. One of the safety features that come standard on all of our horse trailers and horse vans protects the safety of your horse’s head during the loading process, a vitally important feature.

Leading a horse into a horse trailer is not always the easiest process. Of course they are reluctant to be led into a small metal stall that inhibits them from moving around as they please (even if it is a Phoenix Coach Works quality constructed stall made of strong light weight aluminum). As the horse is being loaded chances are they can rear up at the wrong time and smack their head against the roof of the horse trailer causing cuts and injury.

That is why at Phoenix Coach Works we build our roofs to be flexible so that it will bend around the horse’s head, should they come in contact. Styrofoam insulation between the interior and exterior roofs absorbs any impact which should happen, protecting your horse and your horse trailer. This safety feature is so important that it comes standard in every horse trailer we build. We have been including this feature for so long, we often forget to mention it!
